Hey learners,
In a significant decision aimed at supporting the Agnipath scheme, the Uttar Pradesh government has announced 20% horizontal reservation for Agniveers in state police recruitment. The decision was approved during a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. The move is set to benefit former Agniveers who have completed their four-year service tenure under the Indian Army’s Agnipath scheme.

Equal Benefit for All Categories
The reservation will be applied equally across all categories—Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), Other Backward Classes (OBC), and General category candidates. This ensures that Agniveers from every social background will receive the benefit without any disparity.
Age Relaxation for Former Agniveers
In addition to reservation, Agniveers will also be granted a relaxation of three years in the upper age limit for police recruitment. This provision will be particularly beneficial for those who complete their tenure and aim to enter civil services. The age relaxation will provide them a greater window of opportunity to transition into law enforcement roles.
A Progressive Step Ahead of Other States
With this move, Uttar Pradesh becomes the first major state to offer 20% reservation to Agniveers in state police recruitment. In comparison, other states and central paramilitary forces such as CISF and BSF have so far provided a maximum of 10% reservation for Agniveers. This step reflects the state’s proactive stance in integrating trained and disciplined Agniveers into civil security services.
Government's Vision: Leveraging Discipline and Skills
The Yogi government believes that the training, discipline, and skills that Agniveers acquire during their service in the armed forces can be an asset to the state police. By giving them priority in recruitment, the state aims to enhance the professionalism, efficiency, and preparedness of the police force.
The announcement has been widely welcomed by defence experts and aspirants alike. It not only provides a strong post-service career pathway for Agniveers but also strengthens the state’s law and order framework with well-trained personnel. As the Agnipath scheme continues to evolve, such state-level initiatives are vital to ensure long-term benefits for the soldiers who serve under it.
